1. Route from Granada: Paseo de la Bicha – SL-A 393 Connection
This is the classic route connecting Granada’s capital directly to our village. It is an easy, flat, and comfortable path suitable for all ages.
- Route: The journey begins at Puente Verde (Granada), following the Paseo de la Bicha along the banks of the Genil River.
- The Key Connection: Upon reaching the Los Pinillos area, the Paseo de la Bicha merges into the Local Trail SL-A 393, which leads you straight into the heart of Pinos Genil.
- Distance: 8 km (one way).

2. Local Trail SL-A 393: “Flowing Water”
This certified trail is the centerpiece of our nature offerings. As a circular itinerary, it can be started either at Los Pinillos or directly from the Pinos Genil village center.
A Journey Through Industrial and Railway Heritage
Along its 7.35 km, the trail reveals fundamental historical landmarks:
- Sierra Tram Interpretation Center: Located in the beautifully restored old Sierra Nevada train station. Here, you can learn the history of the legendary tram that once connected Granada to the mountains.
- Remains of the “Fábrica de la Luz” (The Light Factory): A witness to the municipality’s industrial past and early power generation.
- Paraje del Blanqueo: A spot of immense natural beauty and the former site of the “Berta” paper mill.
- Historic Layout: The route combines the old tramway tracks with a scenic walk along the riverbanks and through the streets of the old town.
Technology and Heritage
- AI Experience: You will find QR codes at major heritage sites. Scanning them allows you to enjoy videos recreated with Artificial Intelligence, showing the history of each location in an interactive way.
- Signage: The route features informative panels and explanatory stands throughout the entire journey.
- 🔗 Official Technical Sheet: [Andalusian Mountaineering Federation (FADMES) Website].
The Genil: A River in Ecological Recovery
The river is currently the site of an ambitious project to reintroduce and adapt the habitat for the brown trout. This initiative aims to restore the river’s original vitality and improve ecological connectivity throughout the metropolitan area.
- Brown Trout Recovery: The goal is to facilitate the passage and recovery of this native species through comprehensive improvements to the river ecosystem.
- A River Without Barriers: Former architectural obstacles have been removed and replaced with natural waterfalls, allowing wildlife to move freely.
- Catch and Release Fishing Zone: This section is protected as a “no-kill” fishing zone to ensure the project’s success and promote sustainable recreation.
